'Project 1'

"When totally abstract paintings began to appear they were attacked as meaningless by people who were perfectly willing to enjoy the total abstraction of any musical performance. But music had never been forced into the aesthetic straitjacket of portraying natural sounds." - Desmond Morris, The Human Zoo.

Description

‘Project 1’ explores the nature of the built urban environment through abstract documentation - the cramped and harried physicality of the urban setting - the buildings, structures, architectural styles, verticality, city layout and street furniture, with the familiar and less familiar aspects of the urban setting becoming intertwined. The work seeks to portray a sense of tension and claustrophobia that can often sit in juxtaposition with a sense of cohesion, both existing side-by-side in the urban landscape.
